MY personal favorite places and things to do with my dog!

I will start off by saying that I am a VERY outdoorsy person. I would MUCH prefer to go take my dog somewhere for a nice hike (with my camera of course) regardless of the weather. If I can’t bring my dog, often times I will actually choose a different place to go. Yes, I am THAT person LOL. So I wanted to offer suggestions to my clients as well. And here they are! Please feel free to share more places with me!

TRAINING

First and foremost….. the better trained your dog is……the more you can do with them. I 100% recommend Serenity K9! She is in Forsyth Ga. From puppy training, to basic obedience to behavior issues she is absolutely WONDERFUL!

MY Favorite -Sprewell Bluff!

You will find my personal favorite hiking spot in Thomaston Ga. There are tons of wide open, shaded, well cleared hiking trails. This is NOT “a walk in the park.” This is true hiking. You will need to bring water for you and your furry friend, especially in the hot months! They also offer camping and a few cabins (3 are dog friendly). Find more information HERE. Dogs are to remain leashed.

Lake Tobosofkee (Macon Ga)

Lake Tobosofkee has 3 different parks. Claystone has camping and the roads are nice and shady to walk. Sandy Beach is only open certain times of the year but they have a nice dirt road to walk. Arrowhead has campaign and TONS of awesome walking trails. Dogs are not allowed in the swimming areas and must remain leashed. Find more information HERE.

Pet Supplies +

My favorite pet store is on Forsyth Road in Macon Ga. Very friendly people, and I’m talking about employees and shoppers alike! Pets must remain leashed. Click HERE for info.

Indian Springs State Park

Indian Springs is in Flovilla Ga. They have nice walking trails that are very shaded (watch for bikes). And a beautiful rocky waterfall area as well as tons of shaded picnic tables. Dogs must remain leashed. Click HERE for info.

Ocmulgee River

More specifically - Amerson Park in Macon Ga. We love to kayak! And Amerson is a pretty nice park with convenient put in and take out areas. You can float or kayak for about an hour and a half and get out in the same park as you put in. Water depth will determine if there are nice sandbars to stop off and how quick your float is. The river is much more dangerous than it appears to someone inexperienced and there have been numerous drownings in this park. Please take precautions including you and your pup wearing a life jacket. Click HERE for more info.

Ocmulgee Indian Mounds

This is a National Historical Park in Macon Ga. They have beautiful open areas and you can walk to the mounds and even climb to the top of the largest one. There are paved sidewalks to all of the mounds that are mostly out in the wide open fields. You will NOT want to walk that with your dog on a HOT Georgia day. Go early morning if you are walking this in the hot months. They also have nice shaded wooded trails. Check the website for some closures HERE. Dogs must remain leashed.

Slices Pizzeria

One of my favorite pizza places is in Thomaston Ga. and we stop after a trip to Sprewell Bluff. They have a nice outdoor seating area and pets are welcome. Click HERE for info.

Driftwood Beach

Driftwood Beach is located in Jekyll Island Ga. This spot has the most gorgeous sunrise! It definitely is worth getting up and making the walk to this area. The beach is dog friendly but they must remain leashed. Click HERE for info.

Providence Canyon State Park

Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon” is am amazing place. This is another true hike and is NOT for the faint of heart. Bring water for you and your pup. Depending on weather sometimes there is a bit of water at the bottom of the canyon. Gorgeous views all the way around. Dogs must remain leashed. There is no camping in this park but there are nearby campgrounds. Click HERE for info.

Brasstown Bald

The highest point in Ga is definitely worth the climb! There are paved sidewalks to the top but it is still a bit difficult. There are also trailheads from the parking lot at the bottom. There is a visitor center at the top but is not open year round. Take water for you and your pup. Pets must remain leashed. Click HERE for more info.
